I was not surprised when I came to know that there is a broad spectrum of Indians who are looking to invest in properties abroad. Most of these investors come from industrial and business backgrounds. They are looking for countries where they can combine education, security, safety, and lifestyle among others. Let me tell you which are some countries where Indian can buy property.

Investing In Real Estate Abroad

Many of these Indian investors are buying properties in London due to a drop in property prices and a weaker pound. Besides London, other parts of Europe, like Cyprus and such as Germany are also popular where investors are profiting considerably, and other hotspots include Toronto in Canada, and Atlanta and New Jersey in the USA.

Some other places abroad where you can buy properties are Dubai, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Bhutan, Thailand, France, Los Angeles, Australia, etc.

I want you to know that the process to purchase property varies by region. For instance, in Dubai, apartments are sold as leasehold properties, while Thailand permits foreigners only a leasehold title to the land for a renewable, but ultimately limited time; and Singapore lets foreigners purchase apartments but not land.

So, before buying a property in any country, you should check the buying procedures and due diligence requirements in that country.

Now you know in which countries Indian can buy property.

Hello Gagan, I am here to tell you the countries where Indian can buy property. I have been looking for investment opportunities abroad and have a few countries on priority.

Can Indians Buy Property in Nepal?

I tried looking for investment options in Nepal but found that foreigners are not allowed to own property according to the Land Act 2021. However, I also found a few exceptions to this rule.

  • One such is that if you are married to a Nepalese citizen, you can jointly own the property with your spouse. The property has to be registered under the name of the Nepalese spouse only.

  • The second exception is that foreign companies which are registered in Nepal can own property in Nepal. The property must be used strictly for company operations and not for personal use.

As far as can I buy property in Sri Lanka is concerned, you can purchase property there. This, too comes with a set of rules and regulations.

I recommend reading Westin and Indrani’s answers to understand more about the scope of buying property in Sri Lanka.

This is all from my side. I hope you now know whether can I buy land in another country.
